We aim to empower Muslim youth with their Islamic identity, tackle modern challenges on a grassroots level and generate competent leaders.

At the Saturday Madrasah in MIA Liverpool Islamic Centre, teachers and students expressed concern about the challenges today's youth face, including harmful ideologies and the struggle to maintain their īmān, highlighting the need for change.
Thus, a vision emerged — MIA NextGen, an organisation to provide the young adults of our time a space for growth, nurturing of the soul and leadership development.
A Shura was formed and ideas for events and initiatives were devised. By November, NextGen had commenced their fortnightly youth events.

Six months in, the fortnightly events were thriving, drawing in over 50 attendees every session. Throughout the next few years, other ideas such as field trips, sleepovers and sports competition days were implemented.
But the Shura had a bigger vision.

With the new year came two major milestones: The launch of MIA NextGen Sisters and the initiation of the Shura Leaders Trips.
The introduction of our sisters branch ensured a crucial gap in our community was filled, providing a platform for young Muslim women to engage, lead and inspire.
The Leaders Trip program was intended to align the items of our vision to effectively develop the torchbearers of tomorrow. Through a series of interactive workshops and mentorship sessions, the program aimed to equip Shura members with the skills and values necessary to make meaningful contributions to their community, guided by the principles of Islam.

As we approached the five-year mark, the journey reached its pinnacle in Umrah, where the brothers travelled to Makkah and Al-Madinah, visiting key historical sites, benefiting from scholars, and refining the knowledge and skills developed throughout the program.

In our fifth year, MIA NextGen rebranded to NextGen Youth, highlighting our ambition to achieve our vision.
NextGen held its first ever “Generation of Reform” trip in Putra Jaya, Malaysia. On this trip, we took several young Muslim leaders from our community, bringing them together for an immersive leadership and development experience, ran by some of the most qualified instructors in the English-speaking Muslim world.
The intention of NextGen is to bring our transformative program to communities all over Sydney, Australia, and eventually, the world, in sha Allah.
Our reach has touched other masājid, initiatives, and various Islamic schools. We ask that our future sees collaboration with more inshallah.
As we look ahead, NextGen continues to grow and expand its reach. We're committed to empowering more Muslim youth, strengthening our community connections, and developing the next generation of Islamic leaders. View Impact ReportTo empower Muslim youth with their Islamic identity, tackle modern challenges on a grassroots level and generate competent leaders in Australia and beyond.
We're dedicated to nurturing a vibrant community of Muslim youth by providing engaging events, annual camps, and leadership development programs. Through these initiatives, we aim to strengthen Islamic identity, address contemporary challenges, and cultivate future leaders grounded in faith and service.
NextGen takes a "two-pronged" approach in our strategy. We have found this to be the most effective way in enacting our mission statement. We have divided our activities into two distinct categories; internal and external.

We aim to attract young people to the masjid to provide young Muslims with a safe environment to develop their Islamic identity in order to assist them in tackling modern doubts and issues, and fostering a sense of community, belonging, and friendship. It also creates a safe space for these attendees to explore and develop their skills, identities, and visions under the guidance of mentors.

The NextGen Shura follows a 5-year focused mentoring program where members are nurtured and developed at a personal level pertaining to their Islamic identity, developing an Ummah-centric mindset, and cultivating the skills required to be an Islamic Reformer. The program is quite rigorous and thorough with numerous workshops, leadership trips, and one-to-one engagements - a scrupulous process in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow's Ummah.
